These photos show the very first section of steel that was installed on the "Meadows Gate" commercial/residential tower complex in Pitt Meadows.
What you are seeing here is the reinforcing steel that will support the elevator-core in one of the three towers. This kind of support slab is called a "raft-slab" and it is exactly that. With some sections exceeding 36 inches in thickness, the whole complex will rely on this raft for its support. As the soil in this area cannot offer the right support, all three towers, as well as the parkade, will essentially float atop the raft-slab. There are over 600 tonnes of reinforcing steel in this slab once complete.
